Daniel Charging Whirlwind, 83 or 84, was found dead in Dog Ear Creek less than a mile northwest of Winner, north of the first bridge coming west out of town, about 11 am, June 13, by Rosebud police. Law officials were looking for him since he was last seen May 23. (Rosebud Sioux Herald, 22 June 1970)

Frank John King Sr. of Winner died Feb. 28 in a car accident near Fairfax. He was 65, born June 18, 1905. He lived in Tripp County all of his life. He attended Indian boarding schools at Lower Brule, Pierre, and Rosebud. He was united in marriage to Pauline Shields from Greenwood on Oct. 21, 1927. To this union 11 children were born, five survive. Survivors include his widow, Pauline; sons John Jr. and Dale; daughters Clarice Chasing Hawk, Joyce Traversie, and Lavina Antoine; brothers William King and Lloyd Winter Chaser. Funeral services were held in Trinity Episcopal Church in Winner with burial in his home cemetery, Chapel of the holy Spirit at Ideal. (Rosebud Sioux Herald, 15 and 22 March 1971)
