Chief Quick Bear (Mato Oranko) was held in high esteem by his people. His wife was Looks at the Road and his son was Reuben Quick Bear. Reuben attended Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania and returned to the reservation to become a store owner, a postmaster at Norris, SD, and a commissioner of Mellette County. Reuben married Mary Butler, daughter of Gustavus and Emily Butler. Mary attended school at Genoa Indian School in Nebraska. Reuben died in 1918 and is buried in the Episcopal Cemetery in Parmelee. His wife died in White River in 1953 at the age of 81. (Mellette County, 1911-1961)
