Funeral services for Sallie Larvie Bear Heels, 66, Mission, were held at 2pm Saturday, Nov. 26 in the St. Thomas Catholic church and cemetery, Mission. She was born Feb. 8, 1904 and died Sept. 24 at Rosebud PHS hospital. In her first marriage she wed William J. Peneaux Sr. By this marriage she had four children and was preceded in death by one son and spouse. She then married Paul Bear Heels and seven children were born from that marriage. She was preceded in death by one daughter and spouse. Her third marriage was to George High Pine. No children were born from this marriage. Mrs. Bear Heels was survived by three sons: Stanley Peneaux Sr., Spencer Bear Heels, and Elmer Bear Heels Sr., all of Mission. Also six daughters: Anna Garneaux; Mrs. Doris Menard; Mrs. Arley (Hilda) Bordeaux; Mrs. Norman (Zona) Riley; Mrs. Edward (Rose) Jimerson, all of Mission; Mrs. Chester (Linda) Lambert of Rosebud; and Mrs. Francis (Flora Mae) Bordeaux Jr. of White River. Also three brothers: Andrew Larvie Sr., Al Larvie and Richard Larvie, all of Mission; and one sister, Lillian Whipple of St. Paul, Minn. (Rosebud Sioux Herald, 12 October 1970)

Last rites for Shawn Boyd, 2 years old, at the St. Thomas Catholic Church and cemetery at Mission marked the aftermath of a tragedy in Omaha, Sunday, Sept. 27. Shawn was run over and killed buy a car. He is the son of Eddie and Patsy Boyd who have been living in Omaha. Shawn was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Boyd Sr. of Mission and Mr. and Mrs. Richard LaPointe of Rosebud. Great grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ben LaPointe of Denver and Rosebud. Lee F. "Buck" Farmer was born Nov. 1, 1912 and died Jan. 1 at the age of 58 years and 2 months. He was married to Louise Eastman and they had six children: Dana, Steve, Aloysioux, Clair, Kenneth, and Jim. He later married Lavina Roubideaux and they had four children: Martin, Spud, Monica, and Barbara. At the time of his death he was married to Lena Moccasin Face. They had no children. Funeral services were held at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Mission with burial in the Catholic cemetery there. He was a WWII veteran who was wounded in action. James J. Herman, former Herrick farmer, Congregational minster and Bureau of Indian Affairs employee, 79, died at Rosebud Hospital on May 1, 1971. Funeral services were held May 4 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Mission, with burial there. Survivors include on daughter, Mrs. Mona Shepperd and three sons: Louis (Edgar), Charles (Doc), and Lucius. All, except Lucious of Hot Springs, are from Mission. Mr. Herman was preceded in death by his wife, the former Ellen Lunderman. They were married at Herrick Aug. 23, 1914. Mr. Herman farmed until 1925 when he was ordained a minister and was active in the Congregational Church until 1944. In 1947 he was employed by the BIA until retirement in 1958. He moved to Antelope Community in 1966. He was born Oct. 26, 1891 at Herrick. He also leaves one brother, Thomas of New Town, ND. (Rosebud Sioux Herald, 17 May, 1971)

Lucious (Bud) Herman, 48, of Hot Springs died May 13, less than two weeks after his father, the late Jim Herman, passed away. Services were held May 18 at Hot Spings with burial in the Black Hills National Cemetery. Mr. Herman was born Oct. 4, 1922 at Herrick. He was survived by his wife Pearl and two daughters: Mrs. Marie Barric and Mrs. Linda Waugh. Also two brothers: Edgar and Charles; and one sister Mrs. Mona Shepperd. Kenneth T. Jones was born October 13, 1911 at Mitchell, SD. He attended the Hare School at Mission and was married on May 18, 1933 to Pearl Giroux. To this union thirteen children were born. Mr. Jones passed away early March 19, 1971 of an apparent heart attack. He was residing in Mission at the time of his death. Wakes were held March 11 and 12 at Clark Hall in Rosebud and funeral services were held March 13 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Mission with interment at Trinity Cemetery. Survivors include his children: Noble of Ohio, Yvonne Arcorn of St. Francis, Duane of NY, Edna Scott of Mission, Rebecca Zimmerman of Rosebud, Marilyn Youngman of Rosebud, Dale of Mission, Carolyn of OK, Sharon LaPointe of CA, Clevia Fitzpatrick of Flandreau, and Harold, Cynthia DeCory, and Patricia all of Rosebud. He was also survived by one brother, the Rev. Harold Jones of Fort Defiance, AZ. (Rosebud Sioux Herald, 19 April 1971)

Services for Mrs. Pearl Tillie Valandra Little Hawk, 53, were held in Rapid City on April 21. She drowned April 10 in Waggoner Lake near Philip. Mrs. Little Hawk was born July 30, 1917 at Wood. She was a resident of Rapid City the past several years. Survivors include three sons: Donald Little Hawk, MO; Ronald Little Hawk, Washington, DC; and Leroy Valandra, MO. Three daughters: Mrs. Arlene Rosa, Philippine Islands; Mrs. Clementine Hernandez, CA; and Mrs. Shirley Miner, Rapid City. Her mother, Mrs. Millie Schwegman, Mission. Three brothers: Leroy, Alex and Gene Swally all of Mission. Four sisters: Mrs. Evelyn Hatton, Rapid City; Mrs. Mary Rulo, WI; and Mrs. Marcelle Prue and Mrs. Julian War Bonnet, both of Mission. Moses Marshall dies at 74. The head of the Marshall clan in Mission, Moses Marshall, 74, died at his home Nov. 26 after a heart attack. The World War I Veteran is survived by his widow, the former Annie Julie Grant. They were married on May 9, 1918. Surviving children include: Seth of Michigan; Duane of Mission; Kathryn LeBeaux of Los Angeles; Cornelia Swan of St. Francis; Joseph of Mission; Dorothy Meek of Pennsylvania, Anita Jensen of California; Patrick of Texas and Harry of Mission. Also two sisters: Agnes Yellow Robe and Lucy Farmer, both of Mission. Two brothers: Doug Janis of Okreek and Morse Janis of Parmelee. Funeral services were held at St. Charles Church in St. Francis, Saturday, Nov. 29. Burial was in the St. Francis Mission cemetery. (Rosebud Sioux Herald, 8 Dec. 1969)

James C. (Jim) Moore, 17, a star athlete in the Todd County High School Rodeo Club, died in the Rosebud PHS Hospital about 6am, Sunday, Nov. 29. He was a passenger in a car driven by Robin D. Shaw, 17, Mission. Other passengers in the car were Rodney River, 16, and Charles Schmidt, 22. All in the Shaw car lived in Mission. Funeral services were held at Ben Riefel Auditorium at TCHS, with burial in the St. Thomas Catholic Church cemetery at Mission. He was survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Moore, two sisters and four brothers. (Rosebud Sioux Herald, 7 December 1970)

Patrick Shaw, 15, was killed in a one-car accident about 4am Sunday. The accident occurred about one-half mile west of the Rosebud-Mission junction on US 18. A 1970 Maverick, apparently driven by Tony Night Pipe of Okreek, slid off the wide curve near the Ring Thunder access road. Shaw is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Shaw, Mission, and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Sam White Horse, North Antelope. Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 27, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Mission. (Rosebud Sioux Herald, 31 August 1970)
